Innova 7111: How to Scan All Systems on your vehicle

Purpose

To guide you on how to perform scanning all systems while using the Innova 7111 Scan Tool Tablet.

Introduction


With the ongoing growth of the automotive industry, the usage and number of control modules are rising. As a result, faults in their operation are becoming harder to detect and repair, including both mechanical and electrical issues. To address this, we require a scan tool to communicate with our vehicles and to read their Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). This is crucial when the  Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light on the dashboard is illuminated.


The purpose of this article is to guide you through the process of scanning all systems on a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross with a 2.0L L4 engine.

Procedure

Step 1 - Connect Innova 7111 Scan Tool Tablet to the vehicle and select 'OEM Diagnostics'



First, connect the Innova 7111 Scan Tool Tablet to your vehicle via the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) connector to retrieve the vehicle's information such as Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and model.

Then, select the function 'OEM Diagnostics'.

Step 2 – Select ‘Scan All Systems’ 



The scanner will display a list of the systems in your vehicle.

Select the 'Scan All Systems' button to perform a scan of the vehicle.

Step 3 - View the result



The results will be shown in a table (as shown in the image).

Note: The systems with fault codes will appear first, while systems without fault codes or that do not respond will be displayed last.

Step 4 – Check DTCs in each system



There are 3 types of DTC status: Active, Pending, and History, which indicate the current status of the malfunction and are used to prioritize repairs. Active DTCs indicate a current problem, Pending DTCs indicate a potential problem that has not yet reached a level of certainty, and History DTCs indicate a problem that has been resolved. When diagnosing and fixing a problem, it's important to start with Active DTCs and then move to Pending and History DTCs as necessary.

Step 5 – Erase the DTCs

Once you have resolved all the DTCs in your vehicle, it is time to use the 'Erase All DTCs' function to erase the codes and turn off the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) or warning light located on your dashboard.

The scan tool will perform the clearing process. Afterward, you should scan all systems again to confirm that there are no DTCs present in your vehicle.

Step 6 – Other functions in the 'OEM Diagnostics' sections

During the repair process, you can use other functions in the OEM Diagnostic section, such as 'Live Data' and 'Actuator Test', to evaluate the performance of certain components in your vehicle for a quicker repair process.

Additionally, after replacing components, the Engine Control Module (ECM) needs to re-learn the values of the new components, which you can accomplish using the 'Special Test' function.

In today's automotive industry, using a scan tool to diagnose and fix faults makes the process much easier. The 'Live Data' and 'Actuator Test' functions provide additional benefits by allowing you to quickly identify which components are not functioning correctly and prevent serious issues from occurring.
