Innova 5510: Performing a Battery Test

Step 1 - Press the MENU button.

To navigate to Battery Test procedures, press the MENU button. 

Step 2 - Select Hybrid/EV Battery Test, Battery/Alternator Test, then press ENTER ↵.

The Main Menu will display.

Scroll through the screen using the DOWN ▼ button.

Select Hybrid/EV Battery Test, Battery/Alternator Test, then press ENTER ↵.

Step 3 - Select Yes and press ENTER ↵ to confirm your vehicle.

Confirm your vehicle by selecting Yes and then press ENTER ↵.

Step 4 - Select Battery Test, then press ENTER ↵.

The Battery/Alternator Monitor menu will display.

Select Battery Test, then press ENTER ↵

Step 5 - Follow the instructions.

An Instructional message will display, showing the procedures to prepare the vehicle for the battery check.

Scroll using the DOWN ▼ button to view all instructions.

When you reach the end, press ENTER ↵ to proceed with the test.

If the engine is running, an advisory message will show. Turn the engine off, then turn the ignition on. Do not start the engine. Press ENTER ↵ to continue.

Turn on the headlights, then press ENTER ↵ to continue.

A Countdown message will show while the battery check is in progress.

If the battery voltage is less than 12.1 volts, an advisory message will show. Press the MENU button to return to the Main Menu. Turn the ignition off and disconnect the 5510 from the vehicle. Fully charge the battery, then repeat the battery check.

If the battery voltage is greater than 12.1 volts, an Instructional message will show.

Turn the vehicle’s headlights off, then press ENTER ↵ to proceed.

An Instructional message will show.

Start the vehicle’s engine. Allow the engine to run for several seconds, then turn the engine off. Repeat for a total of three Start/Stop cycles. 

Note: If the 5510 does not detect Cranking Status for the vehicle’s engine, an advisory message will show. Press ENTER ↵ to repeat the battery check, or, press the MENU button to return to the Main Menu.

Step 6 - View Results.

When the battery check is complete, a results screen will display the battery status. The system Status LEDs provide a Pass or Fail indication, as follows:

  • Green = Good
  • Yellow = Normal
  • Red = Warning/Bad

Press the MENU button to return to the Main Menu.
