Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector: OBD Mode Test

    Purpose

Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Scan Tool supports On-board Diagnostic Mode Test (OBD Mode Tests) function, it is essential function to check your vehicle before performing an Emissions/Smoke Check. This function allows checking the status of several emissions related systems including Oxygen Senor Monitor ($05), OBD Monitor Test ($06) and Request Control Onboard System ($08).

    Procedure

Step 1 - Connect Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select 'OBD2 Diagnostics' function

First, connect the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as VIN and On-Board Diagnostic (OBD2) information.

There are two options to access 'OBD2 Diagnostics':

    • Option 1 (AutoLink function is OFF): From the Home Screen, select 'OBD2 Diagnostics' section and press the OK button.

    • Option 2 (AutoLink function is ON): From the 'OBD2 Control Display' screen, press 'Home' button, after that select the 'OBD2 Diagnostics' section.
Step 2 – Check the 'Oxygen Sensor Test' – Mode $05

The Mode $05 – Oxygen Sensor Test provides the test results for Oxygen (Lambda) Sensors (O2S), the vehicle might be from MY2008, but all the functionality of this mode is implemented in Mode $06.

To access Mode $05 results, select the function as shown in the image after selecting the 'OBD2 Diagnostics' in Step 1.

After that, the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool checks and shows the number of the O2S Sensor presented in the vehicle.

Select each item to check the result of the Oxygen Sensor Test ($05).

    Step 3 - Check the 'On-Board Monitoring Test Results' – Mode $06

OBD Monitor Test – Mode $06 displays the on-board monitoring test results for specific monitored systems that are not continuously monitored.

Mode $06 may be used as an alternative method to Mode $05 for obtaining Oxygen Sensor test results.

To access Mode $06 results, select the function as shown in the image after selecting the 'OBD2 Diagnostics' in Step 1.

After that, the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool checks and shows the list of items presented in the vehicle.

Select each item to check the result of the Oxygen Sensor Test ($05).

The data provided by this OBD Monitor Test (Mode $06) can be used by service technicians to identify which monitor has failed. Once the failed component/system has been repaired/restored, Mode $06 data can be used to validate the process.

    Step 4 - Check the 'Request Control On-board System' – Mode $08

The 'Request Control On-Board System' is a bidirectional test mode that allows external test equipment (such a Code Reader or Scan Tool) to initiate testing of a On-Board System, test, or component. This diagnostic mode lets the external device command the vehicle’s On-Board computer to initiate or perform one or more specific tests and retrieve test results.

To access Mode $08 results, select the function as shown in the image after selecting the 'OBD2 Diagnostics' in Step 1.

The specific components/systems for which test results are available vary between vehicle manufacturers, makes and models.

For example, the diesel vehicle will be supported the functions as shown in the image, and the On-Boar System supports the Evaporative Emision Control System test on the gasoline vehicle.
