Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector: Steering Angle Sensor Calibration

    Purpose

To guide users on how to perform the Steering Angle Sensor Calibration function while using the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool.

    Introduction

Modern vehicles come equipped with various safety features such as Vehicle Stability Control System (VSC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and other Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These systems rely on the accuracy of the Steering Angle Sensors (SAS) to help drivers maintain control of their vehicles.

Performing a calibration of the steering angle sensor is necessary after activities like wheel alignment, collision repairs, or component replacement, as these can potentially affect the toe and thrust angle. Calibration ensures that these systems have precise information about the vehicle's position on the road, allowing them to make necessary corrections. If the SAS is not properly calibrated, the stability system of the vehicle may malfunction and eventually become disabled.

    Procedure

Step 1 - Connect Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select 'Workshop Tools' function

First, connect the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as VIN and On-Board Diagnostic (OBD2) information.

From the 'OBD2 Control Display' screen, press the 'Home' button, and after that select the ‘Workshop Tools' section.

Step 2 - Select the 'Steering Angle Sensor Calibration' function

The Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool offers a range of features, including 12 Service Reset functions, as well as the Vehicle Inspection and Battery/Alternator Test functions, as illustrated in the image. To access the reset function, select the 'Steering Angle Adjustment' item and press ‘OK’ button.

NOTE: The name of the Steering Angle Sensor Calibration function varies by manufacturer, year and model.

Step 4 - Perform the SAS Calibration function

In the function, there are some conditions that must be met first before performing the Steering Angle Sensor Calibration function. If not, the resetting function will be failed.

Select the ‘Next’ softkey then press the ‘OK’ button to go to the next step.

Wait for the Scan Tool to perform the SAS Calibration on the vehicle and make sure to follow the note on the Scan Tool screen.

Check the result of the function. Select ‘Exit’ then press the ‘OK’ button to finish the function if completed. If the SAS Calibration function was not completed, verify the condition/notes and repeat the Calibration function.
