Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech: Battery Test

    Purpose

    To guide you on how to check the battery status using the Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool.

    Introduction

    The battery is a crucial component in a vehicle's electrical system, as it provides power for starting the vehicle and supporting systems like the headlights and air conditioner fan while the engine is not running. The Battery Test feature allows us to assess the battery status, which can give us an idea of its performance in the future.

    This article guides you through the process of using the Battery Test function on a 2010 GMC Sierra.

    Procedure

    Step 1 - Connect Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select the 'Workshop Tools' function

    First, connect the Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) connector to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and model.

    Then, select the function 'Workshop Tools'.

    Step 2 – Perform the Battery test

    Tap the ‘Battery/ Alternator test’ function to perform the Battery Test function.

    After that, choose the ‘Battery Test’ function.

    Step 3 - Follow the requirements before testing

    Ensure that your vehicle meets the requirements listed in the pop-up screen. Then, tap the 'Continue' button to proceed to the next step.

    Step 4 – Turn ON the headlights

    Turn ON the headlight, select the ‘Continue’ button and wait for 20 seconds.

    Step 5 – Turn OFF the headlights

    Turn OFF the headlight, then select the ‘Continue’ button.

    Step 6 – Start the engine

    Within 30 seconds after turning OFF the headlight, you must start the engine to continue performing the testing.

    Note: Do not need to turn OFF any accessories because they will be turned OFF when starting automatically.

    Step 7 – View the result

    Just wait for a while. The test result will be presented as an image.

    The Battery Test function has test results that fall into three categories: Good, Marginal, and Fail.

    NOTE: The battery's voltage is used as an indicator in the test results, providing information about the battery's status. So that we can determine the appropriate course of action or next steps to take.

    • Good: The battery has passed the test.
    • Marginal: Charge the battery and retest.
    • Fail: Replace the battery.
    Step 8 – View the Battery Live Data (12 Volt)

    Select the Battery Live Data (12 Volt) function.

    The battery voltage will be shown in the image.
