Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech: Transmission Reset

Purpose

To explain how to relearn the Transmission Reset while using the Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool.

The Transmission Reset function is typically used in situations where the transmission is experiencing performance issues or abnormal behavior. By performing a reset, the TCM is cleared of any stored error codes or adaptive learning parameters, and it reverts to its original factory settings.

Resetting the transmission can help resolve certain transmission-related problems, such as rough shifting, slipping gears, or hesitation. However, it's important to note that not all vehicles have a Transmission Reset function, and even if available, it should be performed with caution. It's recommended to refer to the vehicle's manual or consult a qualified mechanic for specific instructions on using this feature.

So, this article shows you how to use the Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool to perform the Transmission Reset function on a vehicle.

Procedure

Step 1 - Connect Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select 'Workshop Tools' function

First, connect the Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) connector to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and model.

Then, select the 'Workshop Tools' section.

Step 2 – Select the ‘Transmission Reset’ function

The Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool shows the list of functions available for your vehicle. To initiate the Transmission Reset, choose the ' Transmission Reset' item from the list.

After that select ‘TCM - Transmission Control Module’ item to enter the system responsible for the ‘Transmission Reset’ function on the vehicle.  

NOTE: The system name and function procedure differ depending on the make and model of the vehicle.

Step 3 – Choose the function to perform

Select the ‘Transmission Reset’ item.

Step 4 – Perform the 'Transmission Reset’ function

	After select the Transmission Reset function, the Scan Tool shows some requirements that must be met first before performing the ‘Transmission Reset’ function. If not, the resetting process maybe failed. Tap 'Continue’ button to go to the next step.
	Next, turn the ignition ON to respond to the requirement of the procedure then tap ‘Continue’ button to go to the next step.
	Wait for the Scan Tool communicates with the vehicle and confirm the desired performing request.
	After that, the Scan Tool communicates with the vehicle to check the condition – which must be met to ensure the ‘Transmission Reset’ function working exactly. Then, select the ‘Yes’ button to go to the next step.
	Wait and check the result of performing the function. Tap the ‘Back’ button to finish the ‘Transmission Reset’ function.
