7111: Using the Tablet Without VCI Cable Attached

Purpose:

Explain how to use the 7111 tablet to read, scan, and perform its features without the VCI cable attached to the back of it but while the OBD2 cable is still attached to the OBD2 port of vehicle.

Using the Tablet without VCI Cable Attached

The VCI cable can detach from the tablet and read the vehicle to perform its features. As long as the OBD2 cable stays attached to the vehicle's OBD2 port, the tablet will read, scan, and perform its features with much better mobility and range. For example, you can walk around the vehicle with tablet in hand while you scan. You can be 50 feet away from your vehicle and still perform scans as well other features.

How it Works

Power on the tablet. Make sure the OBD2 connector end is attached to the OBD2 port of vehicle. Remove the VCI module from the back of the tablet. The ignition needs to be turned to the ON position. There should be a message within seconds that states "Innova wants to turn on Bluetooth: Deny Allow". You need to select "Allow" to activate Bluetooth. The tablet will re-establish communication with the vehicle. The year, make, model, and VIN # of the vehicle should be visible near the top of the tablet's display screen to confirm your connection. You can now walk around the vehicle, and even further away while successfully scanning the vehicle without the cable attached to the tablet.

Step 1: Connect the OBD2 cable to the OBD2 Port of Vehicle.

Make sure the OBD2 connector end is attached to the OBD2 port.

Step 2: Accessing Bluetooth: Deny or Allow.

With the OBD2 cable connected to the OBD2 port of vehicle and VCI module off the back of the tablet, within seconds a message should appear stating:

Innova Wants to Turn on Bluetooth

DENY ALLOW

Once Allow is selected, all 6 tiles should light up within seconds on the display screen with the year, make, model, and VIN # of vehicle on top of display screen.
