Innova 5110: LED Status

Purpose

Explain the meaning of the LED lights on the 5110 (Green, Yellow, Red).

LED Status

The LED status lets you know the severity of your diagnostic trouble codes.

Green - No diagnostic trouble codes are present in the vehicle's computer. Ready for smog. This is the light you want to show up on your 5110.

Yellow - "Pending" codes still being tested that may become "Confirmed codes" after the testing is complete. When the yellow light is on the 5110, the vehicle needs to be driven until the testing is complete. This is generally referred to as a "Drive Cycle Procedure".

A yellow light could also indicate the code(s) present in the vehicle's computer are mild.

Red - The diagnostic code(s) present in the vehicle's computer needs attention. The issue should be fixed immediately to prevent reduced engine performance, bad fuel economy, and possible issues that put the vehicle into limp mode, or even a crank, but no start condition.

Note: We had to use 3 different vehicles to get these 3 different lights. It's impossible for our scan tools to have more than 1 LED light lit up at once.

Green LED

The Green LED light means no diagnostic codes are presently stored in the vehicle's computer. This is the light you want to see on your 5110. If you live in state where smog is required, you are ready to pass.

Yellow LED

You can see the yellow LED light on the 5110. Notice how the word "Pending" is above the code. After a drive cycle is completed, "Pending" will go away and either leave the code as a confirmed code or the code will disappear on its own. If the code goes away, the LED will turn green.

Red LED

This 5110 has 3 codes that it picked up from the vehicle's computer. This image shows the primary code (01/03). You can see the red LED light is on.

When scrolling down to the 3rd code, notice the code states "Permanent" above it. This will definitely cause the red LED light to come on. This issue needs to be resolved correctly, then the vehicle needs to be driven in order for the vehicle's computer to test it, then the code will clear on its own when the vehicle's computer determines it was resolved correctly.
