Innova 5110: Erasing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Erasing DTCs

When the code reader's ERASE function is used to clear DTCs , Freeze Frame data, and Manufacturer Specific Enhanced Data are erased as well.

Make sure that if you plan to take the vehicle to a service center for repair, do not erase the codes from the vehicle's computer. If the codes are erased, valuable information that might help the technician troubleshoot the problem will also be erased.

When DTCs are erased, the I/M Readiness monitor status program resets the status of all the monitors to a no-run condition. To properly set all monitors to a Done status, a drive cycle procedure must be performed.

Step 1 - Perform the code retrieval procedures while linked to your vehicle.

After scanning your vehicle and retrieving a list of DTC codes, follow the following procedures:

  • To erase OBD2 DTCs, wait until the codes are displayed on the code reader’s LCD and then proceed to step 2.
  • To erase ABS DTCs, press the ABS button to retrieve codes, and then proceed to step 3.

Step 2 - To erase OBD2 DTCs, press and release the code reader’s ERASE button.

To erase OBD2 DTCs, press and release the Code Reader’s ERASE button.

Step 3 - To erase ABS DTCs, press the ABS button to read and erase the ABS codes, then press the ERASE button.

Press the ABS button to read ABS codes. To view multiple ABS codes, keep pressing the ABS button.

Press the ERASE button.

Step 4 - Confirm to erase DTCs.

The LCD display will indicate ERASE? for your confirmation.

Press the ERASE button to continue. If you change your mind and do not wish to erase the codes, press the DTC or ABS button to return to the code retrieval function.

If you chose to erase the DTCs, the message ERASE will display while the erase is in progress.

When all retrievable information has been cleared from the computer’s memory, the code reader will re-link to the vehicle’s computer, and the LCD display will show the message Done.

Note: If the erase is not successful, the message SENT will show on the coder reader’s display. The code reader will then relink to the previously selected module.
