Innova 5610: Viewing Live Data

Check Engine Live Data & Other Live Data Options.

Note: Shows how to access check engine, ABS, SRS, TPMS, and Transmission live data with the Innova 5610.

Introduction

The Innova 5610 lets you view and/or record Live Data. This information includes values such as volts, RPM, ECT temperature, speed, etc., and system status information such as open loop, closed loop, fuel trim levels, etc. These are generated by the various vehicle sensors, switches, and actuators. The Live Data operating information (values/status) that the computer (PCM) supplies to the 5610 for each sensor, actuator, switch, etc. are called Parameter Identifications (PID). Each PID (sensor, actuator switch, status, etc.) has a set of operating characteristics and features that serve to identify it.

Step 1 - While linked to the vehicle, start the engine, then press the LD button.

While linked to the vehicle, start the engine, then press the LD button.

Step 2 - Wait for the 5610 to establish communication with the vehicle.

A One moment please message will display while the 5610 establishes communication with the vehicle.

If the 5610 fails to establish communication with the vehicle's computer, a Communication Error message will display.

  • Ensure the vehicle is OBD2 compliant.
  • Verify the connection at the DLC, and verify the ignition is ON.
  • Turn the ignition OFF, wait 5 seconds, then back ON to reset the computer.
  • Press ENTER ↵ to continue.

Step 3 - View your Live Data (PID) information.

Your Real-time Live Data PIDs (Parameter Identifications) information will display for your vehicle.

If Live Data is not supported by the vehicle under test, an advisory message will appear. Select Relink to try again, or, Select the System Status button to return to the System Menu.

Note: The values for the various PIDs displayed may change as the vehicle's operating conditions change.

Step 4 - Press the UP ▲ and DOWN ▼ Buttons to view all available PID data.

Only a limited amount of PID data can be displayed on the screen at one time.

Press UP ▲ and DOWN ▼, as necessary, to view all available PID data.

To view your currently selected PID's expanded definition, press and hold down the ENTER ↵ button.

Note: The expanded definition functionality is available only when enabled through the Tool Settings.

Step 5 - Select Graph to view the currently selected PID as a Graph.

Select Graph to view the currently selected PID in Graph mode.

The Graph mode will display.

Select Text View to return to the PID List.

Press the Graph button again to select 2 Graphs, then again to show 4 Graphs. These additional graphs will display the following PIDs that you have chosen.

With four PIDs shown in Graph mode, select the Superimpose option to superimpose the graphs.

Select 4 Graph to return to the first PID selected for the Graph mode display or select Text View to return to the PID list.

This is an image showing 4 different graphs in Custom Live Data. The 5610 is hooked up to a 2014 Ford Mustang with the engine running. The gas pedal is slightly being pressed down to show the changes.

Step 6 - If you experience vehicle problems, view and/or compare the Live Data (PID) information displayed on the 5610 to specifications in the vehicle's repair manual.

You can also Customize the Live Data display to show only those select PIDs you are interested in viewing. See Customizing Live Data (PIDs) for details. You may also choose to record Live Data for later viewing. See Recording Live Data for more information.
