Innova 1000: When to Perform a Drive Cycle
Purpose
To provide steps on when to perform a Drive Cycle Procedure when using the Innova 1000.
Introduction
When a vehicle has incomplete Readiness Monitors, a Drive Cycle Procedure must be performed. This means that 1 or more of the vehicle's Readiness Monitors are incomplete, and still testing for potential check engine codes. The Readiness Monitors are listed below:
Continuous Monitors
- MIS - Misfire
- FUE - Fuel System
- CCM - Comprehensive Component
Non-Continuous Monitors (Gas)
- EVA - Evap System
- 02S - Oxygen Sensor
- HTR - Oxygen Sensor Heater
- EGR and/or VVT System- Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Variable Valve Timing
- CAT - Catalyst
- HCAT - Heated Catalyst
- AIR - Secondary Air System
Non-Continuous Monitors (Diesel)
- PM - PM Filter
- DPF - Diesel Particle Filter
- EGR and/or VVT System - Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Variable Valve Timing
- BP - Boost Pressure
- NOx/SCR - Oxides of Nitrogen/Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems
- NMHC - Non-Methane Hydrocarbon Catalyst
- EGS - Exhaust Gas Sensor
These monitors are not directly shown, but you will know if there are errors within these monitors if a failing result shows after you perform a scan.
To know if you need to perform a drive cycle, follow the steps below:
Step 1 - Select Whole System.
After pairing with the RS2 app, you need to perform a Whole System scan in the Home menu.
Select Whole System to scan all modules and systems.
Step 2 - Wait until the RS2 app reads the data from your vehicle.
- The RS2 app will read the data from your vehicle, including the odometer.
Step 3 - Select Generate Report.
- After your vehicle's odometer is read by the RS2 app, select Generate Report.
While generating the report, ensure your vehicle is turned to the ON position, and your smart device is close to your dongle.
Once the report is generated, a Done message will show on the screen.
Note: Your vehicle’s odometer mileage should automatically be recorded in the Odometer field.
Step 4 - View the Report Page.
- The Report Page will appear after the mobile app is done generating reports. Do the following according to the scan results:
- If the Scan Results show PASS, you do not need to perform a Drive Cycle Procedure.
- If the Scan Results show Trouble Code Results, you must perform a Drive Cycle Procedure. To know how to perform a complete drive cycle, visit the Complete Drive Cycle Procedures link.
Note: If trouble codes are still present after a Drive Cycle, you need to troubleshoot the issue to have a PASS result after a scan.
