Active Tests & Special Functions
The Active Test will let you perform bi-directional tests for various vehicle actuators and systems. The Special Functions are for relearning procedures such as crankshaft and camshaft relearns.
NOTE: Bidirectional Active Test & Special Function support depends on the year, make, model, and engine size of vehicle. We have a coverage checker online to verify feature & function compatibility with specific vehicles.
How to Access Bidirectional Active Tests & Special Functions

Step 1 - Press the System Status button
- To navigate to your Active Tests or Special Functions, press the System Status button.
- The 5610 v3 in this image is connected to a Ford while the engine is running. Our scanners and tablets will work with the ignition in the ON position or with the engine running. Certain Active Tests & Special Functions may require the engine to be running in order to perform the task or routine.
Step 2 - Select ECM (or PCM), then confirm your vehicle.

- Select ECM (or PCM), then press ENTER ↵.
- Confirm if vehicle is correct.
Step 3 - Select Active Test.

- Select Active Tests, then press ENTER ↵.
- The supported Active Tests will display. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Active Tests.
Step 4 - Select Special Functions.

- Select Special Functions, then press ENTER ↵.
- View the Special Functions Menu. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Special Functions.
