Active Tests & Special Functions

An Active Test allows you to send active commands back to the vehicle's computer to operate, test, or override components directly.

Special Functions are calibrations, relearns, component adaptations, automated procedures, & system resets.

NOTE: Bidirectional Active Test & Special Function support depends on the year, make, model, and engine size of vehicle. We have a coverage checker online to verify feature & function compatibility with specific vehicles.

Accessing ECM(or PCM)/TCM Active Tests & Special Functions

To navigate to your Active Tests or Special Functions, press the System Status button.
The 5610 v3 in this image is connected to a Ford while the engine is running. Our scanners and tablets will work with the ignition in the ON position or with the engine running. Certain Active Tests & Special Functions may require the engine to be running in order to perform the task or routine.

Step 2 - Select ECM (or PCM), then confirm your vehicle

Select ECM (or PCM), then press ENTER ↵.
Confirm if vehicle is correct.
You can select the TCM as well to find transmission related active tests & special functions, then press ENTER ↵. However, many vehicle manufacturers will combine transmission related active tests & special functions under the PCM instead.
If a Not Supported message displays when trying to access the TCM, select PCM instead.

NOTE: On many vehicles—particularly those from domestic manufacturers like Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler—the powertrain architecture is highly integrated. Because the engine and transmission work in tandem to manage the vehicle's drive cycle, their electronic controls are frequently combined into a single physical computer or tightly paired in software communication.

Step 3 - Select Active Test

Select Active Tests, then press ENTER ↵.
The supported Active Tests will display. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Active Tests.

Step 4 - Select Special Functions

Select Special Functions, then press ENTER ↵.
View the Special Functions Menu. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Special Functions.

Accessing ABS/Traction Control Active Tests & Special Functions

Step 1 - Press the System Status button

To navigate to your Active Tests or Special Functions, press the System Status button.

Step 2 - Scroll down to ABS

Scroll down by pressing the DOWN ▼ button, then select ABS & press ENTER ↵.

Step 3 - Select Active Tests

Scroll down by pressing the DOWN ▼ button, then select Active Tests & press ENTER ↵.

The supported Active Tests will display. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Active Tests.
Press the Back button to return to the System Menu.

Step 4 - Select Special Functions

Select Special Functions, then press ENTER ↵.
View the Special Functions Menu. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Special Functions. Press ENTER ↵ once the desired function is selected.
Press the Back button to return to the System Menu.

Accessing BCM Active Tests & Special Functions

Step 1 - Press the System Status button

To navigate to your Active Tests or Special Functions, press the System Status button.

Step 2 - Choose Module Selection, then BCM - Body Control Module

Scroll down by pressing the DOWN ▼ button, then select Module Selection & press ENTER ↵.
Scroll through & select BCM - Body Control Module, then press ENTER ↵.
Press the Back button to return to the System Menu.

Step 3 - Select Active Tests

Scroll down by pressing the DOWN ▼ button, then select Active Tests & press ENTER ↵.

The supported Active Tests will display. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Active Tests.
Press the Back button to return to the System Menu.

Step 4 - Select Special Functions

Select Special Functions, then press ENTER ↵.
View the Special Functions Menu. Press the UP ▲ & DOWN ▼ buttons to navigate through all the available Special Functions. Press ENTER ↵ once the desired function is selected.
Press the Back button to return to the System Menu.
