Innova 5410: Scanning Individual Modules
Purpose
Guidance on how to scan individual modules with the Innova 5410.
Module Scan
Scan your vehicle's modules by selecting individually to check for any diagnostic trouble codes.
To Scan Select Modules
Step 1 - While linked to your vehicle, press the System Status button.
- While linked to your vehicle, press the System Status button to navigate to your list of scan options.
Step 2 - Press the DOWN▼ button to scroll to Module Selection then press ENTER ↵.
- Scroll through the options in the System Menu by pressing the DOWN ▼ button, and select the Module Selection option by pressing ENTER ↵.
Step 3 - Press UP▲ or DOWN▼ to scroll through your vehicle's modules, select the module you wish to scan, then press ENTER ↵.
- Press UP▲ or DOWN▼ to scroll through your vehicle's modules, then select the module you wish to scan by pressing the ENTER ↵ button.
Step 4 - Wait for the 5410 to complete the scan.
A One moment please message will display while your 5410 retrieves your DTCS for your select module. Wait until the scan is 100% complete.
If the 5410 fails to link to the selected module, a Communication Error message will show. In this case:
- Ensure your vehicle is OBD2 compliant.
- Verify the connection at the DLC port and that your ignition is turned On.
- Turn the ignition Off, wait 5 seconds, then turn the ignition back On to reset the vehicle's computer.
- Press LINK to continue, or, press System Status to return to the System Menu.
- If the selected module does not support the Read DTC function, an advisory message will display. Press the System Status button to return to the System Menu, or, press the Menu button to access the Main Menu.
Step 5 - Press UP▲ or DOWN▼ to scroll through the modules, select the specific module you wish to scan, then press ENTER ↵.
In the Diagnostic Self-Test Mode, press UP▲ or DOWN▼ to scroll through the options.
To view the DTC codes for your specific module, select the Continuous Memory DTCs option then press ENTER ↵.
Step 6 - Follow the instructions as shown on the screen, and wait for the 5410 to complete the scan.
- Some vehicle modules like the Powertrain Control Module may have extra steps to retrieve your DTC codes. In this case, follow the instructions that will appear on the screen that you selected, then press ENTER ↵.
- Wait for the 5410 to complete the scan.
Step 7 - Press UP▲ or DOWN▼ to scroll through your DTC codes for your specific select module.
After you press the Continuous Memory DTCs option, press the UP ▲ and DOWN ▼ buttons to scroll through your select module's DTC codes.
You may refer to Display Functions for a description of each display element.
When the last retrieved DTC has been displayed press the DOWN ▼ button again to return to the first code.
If the definition for the currently displayed code is not available, an advisory message will show.
I/M Monitor Status icons are not displayed when using the Network Test function.
In the case of codes with long definitions, a small arrow will show in the upper/lower right-hand corner of the screen to indicate the presence of additional information.
If no codes are present, the message No (system name) DTCs are presently stored in the vehicle’s computer will show. Press the System Status button to return to the System Menu.
To exit the enhanced mode, press the System Status button to return to the System Menu. Select Global OBD, then press ENTER ↵ to return to the Global OBD2 mode.
Note: You may also press the DTC/FF button to scroll through your codes one at a time.
Step 8 - To return to your Select Module's DTC codes press the DTC/FF button.
To return to your select module's DTC codes after pressing any button, press the DTC/FF button to re-display your select module's codes.
Whenever the Scroll function is used to view additional codes, the 5410’s communication link with the vehicle’s computer disconnects. To re-establish communication, press the LINK button again.
Note: Initiating another test from the System Status menu such as scanning for ABS will replace your select module's DTC codes shown with the ABS codes when you press the DTC/FF button.
