Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector: Network Scan

Purpose

To guide you on how to perform scanning all systems while using the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool.

Introduction

As the automotive industry continues to expand, the utilization and quantity of control modules are increasing. Consequently, identifying and fixing malfunctions in their functioning, encompassing mechanical and electrical problems, is becoming more challenging. To tackle this issue, a Scan Tool is essential to establish communication with our vehicles and retrieve their Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). This becomes particularly important when the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on the dashboard is illuminated.

The objective of this article is to provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to scan all systems in a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross equipped with a 2.0L L4 engine.

Procedure

Step 1 - Connect the SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select 'OEM Diagnostics'

  • First, connect the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as VIN and On-Board Diagnostic (OBD2) information.
  • To access the ‘OEM Diagnostics’, from the Home Screen, select 'OEM Diagnostics' section and press the ‘OK’ button.

Step 2 – Select ‘Scan All Systems’ feature

  • The Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool offers you the ‘Scan All Systems’ function or the ‘single system scan’ function directly by selecting the item including:
    • ECM (or PCM) - Engine Control Module
    • TCM - Transmission Control Module
    • ABS – Anti-Lock Brake Control Module
    • SRS – Supplemental Restraint System Control Module
    • Besides that, the Scan Tool also offers the vehicle inspection function in the vehicle.
  • Select the ‘Scan All Systems’ item then press ‘OK’ button to scan all systems available on the vehicle.
  • Alternatively, you have the option to manually scan individual systems by choosing from the three categories they are divided into: Powertrain, Body, and Chassis group.

Step 3 - Wait for the Scan Tool to retrieve data from the vehicle

  • In retrieving the data from the vehicle process, the SDS43 SDS-Inspector also supports the ‘Stop’ and ‘Cancel’ features to flexibly improve the repairing or diagnostic process time.

Step 4 – View the result

  • The results of scanning all systems available on the vehicle will be shown in a table (as shown in the image).
  • Note: The systems with fault codes will appear first, while the systems without fault codes or that do not respond will be displayed last.

Step 5 – Check DTCs in each system

  • After selecting a system, the Scan Tool shows the feature list available on this system as in the image. Select the ‘Read DTCs’ item then press the ‘OK’ button to read DTCs.
  • There are three types of DTC status: Active, Pending, and History, which indicate the status of the malfunction and are used to prioritize repairs.
    • Active DTCs indicate a current problem.
    • Pending DTCs indicate a potential problem that has not yet reached a level of certainty.
    • History DTCs indicate a problem that has been resolved.
  • When diagnosing and fixing a problem, it's important to start with Active DTCs and then move to Pending and History DTCs as necessary.

Step 6 –Erase the DTCs

  • Once you have resolved all the DTCs in your vehicle, it is time to use the 'Erase All DTCs' softkey to erase the codes and turn OFF the MIL or warning light located on your dashboard.
  • The Scan Tool will perform the clearing process. Afterward, the Scan Tool scans all systems automatically again to confirm that there are no DTCs present in your vehicle.
