Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector: Battery Test
Purpose
To guide you on how to check the battery status while using the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool.
Introduction
The battery is a crucial component in a vehicle's electrical system, as it provides power for starting the vehicle and supporting systems like the headlights and air conditioner fan while the engine is not running. The Battery Test feature allows us to assess the battery status, which can give us an idea of its performance in the future.
This article guides you through the process of using the Battery Test function on a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross L4 1.5L.
Procedure
Step 1 - Connect the SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select 'Workshop Tools'
- First, connect the Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as VIN and On-Board Diagnostic (OBD2) information.
- To access the ‘Workshop Tools’, from the Home Screen, select 'Workshop Tools' section and press the ‘OK’ button.
Step 2 – Perform a Battery Test
- The Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector Tablet Scan Tool offers a range of features, including 12 Service Reset functions, as well as the Vehicle Inspection and Battery/Alternator Test functions. To initiate the Battery Test function, you can choose the ' Battery/Alternator Test' item from the list then press the ‘OK’ button.
- After selecting the Battery/Alternator Test function, the Scan Tool shows the function list available on the vehicle as in the image.
- Select the ‘Battery Test’ item to perform a check of the vehicle’s battery to ensure the system is operating within acceptable limits.
Step 3 - Follow the requirements before testing
- Ensure that your vehicle meets the requirements listed on the screen. Then, select the 'Continue' softkey and then press the ‘OK’ button to proceed to the next step.
Step 4 – Turn ON the headlights
- Turn ON the headlight, select the ‘Continue’ softkey and wait for 20 seconds.
Step 5 – Turn OFF the headlights
- Turn OFF the headlight, then select the ‘Continue’ softkey and press the ‘OK’ button.
Step 6 – Start the engine
- Within 30 seconds after turning OFF the headlight, you must start the engine to continue performing the testing.
- NOTE: Do not need to turn OFF any accessories because they will be turned OFF when starting automatically.
Step 7 – View the result
- Just wait for a while. The test result will be presented as an image.
- The Battery Test function has test results that fall into three categories: Good, Marginal, and Fail.
- NOTE: The battery's voltage is used as an indicator in the test results, providing information about the battery's status. So that we can determine the appropriate course of action or next steps to take.
- Pass: The battery has passed the test.
- Marginal: Charge the battery and retest.
- Fail: Replace the battery.
Step 8 – View the Battery Live Data (12 Volt)
- In the Battery/Alternator Test menu, select ‘Battery Live Data (12 Volts)’ item, then press ‘OK’ button.
- The battery voltage will be shown as the image. The value of the Battery Live Data provides the information of battery’s status in the real-time, the mechanics or diagnostic technician can use this information in the repair process.
- When you are finished viewing the Battery Live Data (12 Volts), press ‘Back’ to return to the Battery/Alternator Test menu.
