Innova SDS43 SDS-Inspector: Headlamp Calibration

Purpose

To explain how to relearn the Headlamp Leveling Sensor while using the Innova SDS50 SDS-Tech Tablet Scan Tool.

Introduction

The Headlamp Leveling Sensor is a component in modern vehicles that is responsible for automatically adjusting the aim or level of the headlights based on the vehicle's pitch and load conditions. It is designed to ensure that the headlights maintain proper alignment with the road surface, regardless of the vehicle's orientation or weight distribution.

By automatically adjusting the headlight aim, the Headlamp Leveling Sensor improves the driver's comfort and convenience. It eliminates the need for manual adjustment of the headlight aim when driving under different load conditions or on uneven surfaces. The sensor ensures that the headlights always provide an appropriate and well-illuminated view of the road.

Over time, vibrations, shocks, or regular wear and tear can cause the headlamp leveling sensor to become misaligned or lose its calibration. Calibration ensures that the sensor is accurately measuring the vehicle's inclination and providing correct input to the headlamp control module. If the sensor is not calibrated properly, it may result in incorrect headlamp aiming, leading to poor visibility or glare for other drivers.
