Innova SD35 SD-Advisor: Freeze Frame Data

Purpose

To explain how to view your Freeze Frame Data using the Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool.

Introduction

In OBD2 systems, when an emissions-related engine malfunction occurs that causes a DTC to set, a record or snapshot of engine conditions at the time that the malfunction occurred is also saved in the vehicle’s computer memory. The record saved is called Freeze Frame data. Saved engine conditions include, but are not limited to: engine speed, open or closed loop operation, fuel system commands, coolant temperature, calculated load value, fuel pressure, vehicle speed, air flow rate, and intake manifold pressure.

Freeze Frame Data eliminates guesswork and provides a clear and accurate picture of the vehicle's condition, reducing the risk of misdiagnosis and unnecessary repairs. Each Freeze Frame Parameter in generic OBD2 has its own significance in quickly identifying the source of faults. Examples:

• Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) gives a reading of the temperature of the engine’s coolant.
• Calculated Load (Calc Load) is a percentage value based on airflow and engine speed.

The Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool can access a comprehensive view of the vehicle's conditions during a malfunction with the Freeze Frame Data.

Procedure

Step 1 - Connect the Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select 'OBD2 Diagnostics.'

• First, connect the Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) to retrieve the vehicle's information, such as Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and model.
• Then, select the 'OBD2 Diagnostic' function.

Step 2 – Select Freeze Frame - $02 and press OK.

• From the OBD2 Menu, select Freeze Frame - $02 and press the OK button

Step 3 - View the result.

• The data results will be shown.

Step 4 - View PID Description

• To view a description of the displayed PID, select and press PID Desc.
