Innova SD35 SD-Advisor: Battery Test
Purpose
To guide you on how to check the battery status using the Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool.
Introduction
The battery is a crucial component in a vehicle's electrical system, as it provides power for starting the vehicle and supporting systems like the headlights and air conditioner fan while the engine is not running. The Battery Test feature allows us to assess the battery status, which can give us an idea of its performance in the future.
This article guides you through the process of using the Battery Test function on the SD35 SD-Advisor.
Procedure
Step 1 - Connect the Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool to the vehicle and select the 'Workshop Tools' function.
- First, connect the Innova SD35 SD-Advisor Tablet Scan Tool to your vehicle via the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) connector to retrieve the vehicle's information.
- Then, select the function 'Workshop Tools'.
Step 2 – Perform the Battery test.
- Select the ‘Battery/ Alternator test’ function to perform the Battery Test function.
- The Battery/Alternator Test menu will display.
- After that, select Battery Test, then press OK.
- An “instructional” message displays, showing the procedures to prepare the vehicle for the battery check.
Step 3 - Follow the requirements.
- Prepare the vehicle for the battery check:
- Turn the engine OFF.
- Place the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL and set the parking brake.
- Make a visual check of the battery’s condition. If the battery terminals are corroded or other damage is present, clean or replace the battery as appropriate.
- For “unsealed” batteries, make sure the water level in each cell is above the battery plates.
- Turn the ignition on. DO NOT start the engine.
- Press Continue to proceed.
Note: If the engine is running, an advisory message will show. Turn the engine off, then
turn the ignition on. DO NOT start the engine. Press OK to continue.
- An “instructional” message will be displayed.
- Turn the vehicle’s headlights on, then select Continue to proceed.
- A “countdown” message will show while the battery check is in process.
- Turn the vehicle’s headlights off, then select Continue to proceed.
- An “instructional” message will display.
- If the battery voltage is less than 11.8 volts, an advisory message shows. Select Home to return to the Home Screen. Turn the ignition off and disconnect the Scan Tool from the vehicle. Fully charge the battery, then repeat the battery check.
- If the battery voltage is between 11.8 and 12.1 volts, a “Battery voltage is low, this may affect the accuracy of the test results.” message will display.
- If the battery voltage is greater than 12.1 volts, an “instructional” message sill display.
- Start the vehicle’s engine.
Note: If the Scan Tool did not detect signal start of vehicle’s engine, an advisory
message show. Choose Retest to repeat the battery check or choose Back to return
to the Battery/Alternator Test menu.
Step 4 – View the result.
- When the battery check is complete, a results screen displays the battery’s status.
- Select Back if you wish to return to the Battery/Alternator Test menu.
Step 5 – View the Battery Live Data.
Note: If the EV/HEV/PHEV Battery Health, Battery/Alternator Test is selected from the Workshop Tools screen and the vehicle is not an electric or hybrid vehicle, the Battery/Alternator Monitor menu displays.
- Under Workshop Tools, select Battery/Alternator Test, then press OK.
- The Battery/Alternator Test menu will display.
- Select Battery Live Data (12 Volts), then press OK.
- The Battery Live Data (12 Volts) screen will display.
