Recording Live Data by Manual Trigger
This option lets you select the precise time at which the Live Data recording will occur. Recording by Manual Trigger can be a very valuable resource when troubleshooting intermittent problems that do not meet the requirements for a DTC to set. The 5510 is capable of recording approximately 100 frames of Live Data.
Step 1 - Press and hold the LD button to access Live Data.
- While your tool is connected to your vehicle, press the LD button to navigate to the Live Data screen.
- A One moment please message will display.
The screen will show a list of your vehicle's Live Data PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
Press and hold the LD button to access the Live Data Menu.
Step 2 - Select Record Live Data, then press ENTER ↵.
Select Record Live Data, then press ENTER ↵.
If the 5510 fails to establish communication with the vehicle, a Communication Error message will display.
- Ensure the vehicle is OBD2 compliant.
- Verify the connection at the DLC, and verify the ignition is On.
- Turn the ignition Off, wait 5 seconds, then back On to reset the computer.
- Press POWER/LINK to continue.
Step 3 - Select Record Manually, then press ENTER ↵.
The Live Data Menu will display.
Select Record Manually, then press ENTER ↵.
- A One moment please message will display.
- The Select PIDs to Record screen will display.
Step 4 - Press UP ▲and DOWN ▼ to scroll through the available PIDs. Press ENTER ↵ for PIDS you wish to display.

Press UP ▲ and DOWN ▼ to scroll through the available PIDs.
When a PID you wish to record is highlighted, press ENTER ↵. Repeat until only the PIDs you want to record are selected. A Checkmark icon will show confirming your selection.
To select all PIDs, select Record All PIDs.
To deselect a PID, highlight the PID, then press ENTER ↵. The checkmark is removed.
Step 5 - When you are finished making your selections, press LD to continue.

The Record Live Data screen will display.
Select Start Recording and press ENTER ↵ to begin recording.
Step 6 - After pressing the Record button, a progress message will show on the display.
- Put the engine in the operating condition where the problem manifests itself. If necessary, drive the vehicle until you reach the vehicle speed at which the problem occurs.
Step 7 - After successfully recording, select Yes to playback Live Data or No to return to the Live Data menu.
When the recording is complete, a confirmation screen will display.
Using the UP ▲ and DOWN ▼ buttons, select Yes to playback Live Data (see How to Playback Live Data for details) or No and press ENTER ↵ to return to the Live Data menu.
If the recording was not successful, an advisory message will display. If so, press the Continue button to return to the Live Data menu.
